Default HELP!!!

OK for the last week or so, when I start up my car in the morning or after my car has set for a few hours, my idle is runnin about 2000!!! yeah this is starting to worry me. I have checked out the usual stuff like the throttle body, vaccume lines, air temp sensor on my CAI and other little things. Well had the dealer tune up my car on Tuesday and they said it was my plugs (Bosch Platinum +4s) that were the prob. They said they are NOT reccomended for my car and that was the prob. Well 2 days later I am still have the sam prob with the idle. Well it seems to calm down after I have rin the car about 2 - 3 mins, but this is freakin me out that something major is going bad. The dealer refused to hook it up to the diagnostic tool, unless my Check Engine Light came on! I have not mad any mods at all in the las few months since my CAI that was about 4 - 6 months ago. So I can quite pin point in on one thing. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I'm infering from your post that you changed plugs. What plugs did you change to?

It sounds like your car is going into autochoke mode, or is reading the TPS wrong. I'm guessing choke becuase it goes away once the engine is warm.

You've got a sensor fouled, gunked, or otherwise outta wack that is causing the ECU to think the engine needs to be run high to warm it up.

When did this problem start? What plugs did they change to? I'm doubting a plug change will fix this...but you can try NGK V Coppers.

If it's any consolation, I have the Bosch Plat +4's and have had zero problems.

I did have a high idle after installing the new intake manifold. Most of the problem was the adjustment screw on the throttle body and the tension nuts on the accellerator cable. After adjusting these, the problem went away.

Finally, the only other thing I can think of is that maybe you have some oil in the throttle body and it is sticking open just a hair. This would cause the TPS to read higher, more air in the intake, and higher RPMs for idle. When I swapped out my TB it was greasy on the inside from some oil in the vacuum lines. A little carb cleaner will clear it right up.

Hopefully one of these is the cuprit. They are easy to fix.

good luck,
AC

Random, well I have had the Bosch +4s in for over 9 months! Never had a prob. Then over the last 2 weeks it just started to run at 2k in rpms when I start my car. When I got the tune up they replaced my plugs with the stock NKG plugs that they say they recommend. I just drove to and from New Jersey for HIN with NO problems at all. Well the check engine light came one, but that was due to the gas cap not being tightened down enough. Well I went to the dealer today to check this out and that is all they found out was the Evap error, which was the gas cap. So it looks like everything else is just fine!

I would yank the rubbber elbow off your TB. Clean it out with a rag. Ditto for the rubber elbow.

Look inside your MAF. Is there oily gunk on the MAF elemet? Look at your IAT Sensor. Is there gunk on that?

Lastly...Check your throttle cables for binding/lubrication. Buy a bottle of cable lube and lube up the inside of your Throttle cable. When cold, it could be stuck in the covering, and when hot, the plastic covering could expand enought to release the cable.

I have that problem in the morning. The first press of the pedal is sticky, after that, everything works fine.

Is it a special grease/oil for the throttle cable or will WD40 or lithium grease work?

Thanks,
A

tib69, glad to hear everything is working again.

There is special "cable lube". Your auto parts store should have it.
