got a tricky lil SOB
so a guy i know is having issues with his 00 elantra, naturally he calls me.
im basically diagnosing this over the internet/weekends (hes quite a ways away from me)
symptoms
runs like sh*t. smells like sh*t. sounds like sh*t. idles like sh*t.
background
his daughters car, mil started flashing, she drove it 40 miles that way didnt tell him about it TIL THE NEXT DAY when he went to take it to work
codes
p0302 (cyl 2 misfire)
02 sensor bank 1 code
gascap code
naturally i took care of the low hanging fruit first, swapped o2 sensors, tightened cap
still ran like sh*t
had him swap for a junkyard coil,
still ran like sh*t
he did plugs/wires
still ran like sh*t
went to his house to quickly take a look at it, sprayed the intake gasket, car reved ONCE. had a AHA moment, took off intake manifold....gasket was ok
replaced anyways
still ran like sh*t
scanned car again with my scanner, only code is cyl 2 misfire. checked out his car a lil, found out he installed the plug wires wrong....AHA moment.
reinstalled plug wires to proper order
still ran like sh*t.
started raining, went home
finally convinced him to do a compression test (he argued with me saying that cant possibly be it, he checked compression last year... )
compression test came back good 170-180s with only 5% difference between cyls
few days later, we get to thinkin, i have him check injector voltage and listen to ticks, ticks sound the same, injector was reading like 7v with key in on position...sounded quite strange to me
(cant check mine, no ecu currently installed)
sent him my spare ecu to swap and test
CAR RAN FINE!! for a couple days
then went back to running like sh*t
MIL came on...cyl 2 misfire
im thinkin swapping that injector with a known good one if that doesnt work, im gonna shoot at it with large caliber weapons

After doing the above, check for harness continuity between ECM and injector plug, and freshen up all the earthing points.
