engine problem
ok the first problem is still here..it comes and goes some days it it's there the next day it is gone..i dunno..about the noise what is a HLA? i just got a oil change 1 week ago so i guess i'll have to wait another 3 months before i start the 3 treatment process..i have about 68,000 on it i bought it 2 years ago with 50,000..i have not replaced the fuel filter..
it's getting worse guys...i just ran some of tha dry gas stuff but it's not working..it's almost like the car is like starving for something for a few seconds then it kicks back in..like ari or fuel..i think it is fuel because i was playing with my intake and it doesn' seem to be air..when i took everything out and just left the filter and MAFS..the problem still occured when i press on teh throttle

sorry, was gone for the weekend.
You said you took some stuff off and played with some things.
Could you go through what you removed/took off and what you played/tested with and what the results are/were?

hydraulic lash adjuster = HLA
The clicking sound is an HLA... i used to get those a lot
I agree with random
i say do the FULL tune up
Im guessing your fuel filter has never been changed
Check plugs and wires
Since you have a friend with the same car... switch wires with him briefly and see if the problem goes away... if it doesnt... then we will know its not that
Its a long shot, but have you pulled the plugs out?
If they had oil... im guessing you have blown rings
No or real low compression would cause this, i know by experience

ok didn't feel the problem at all today..car felt really good..yesterday it felt like ****..it's been snowing lately so i haven't had the chance to pull the plugs but once it clears up i will..i have a question..my g/f's father said he'll change my fuel filter if i want but i told him i read somewhere online it was a bitch to get to?? can anyone point me in the right direction or send a link on where it is (i heard you had to take the rear seat out)..then he'll probably change it..he also said it could be a clogged cat..my heat shield or whatever metal shield that covers it did fall off about 6 months ago and the cat does ping but i figured that was
..i normal
i also forgot to say..but i think i am running very rich because my gas mileage is really horrible now...a while back i bought the civic dual pod for my car...i wanna get a a/f guage but i dunno what the other guage should be and how hard they are to install...any suggestions?

The fuel filter is a PITA. Mainly because hyundai screws the damn thing on so fricking tight, you rotate the metal fuel line rather than the nut on the fuel filter.
Once you get a new fuel filter and hold it in your hand, you will see what we are talking about. Assuming the nut wasn't on there with 1000 ft/lbs and then superglued or spot welded (that's what it feels like), it would be an easy 10 minute job.
The fuel filter is right below the clutch master cylinder. Look for a fist sized black canister up against the firewall in the drivers side corner. It should have a metal fuel line going into the bottom of it, and coming out the top.
If you cat converter is clogged/collaped, that would explain the problem. It could go from semi-clogged to nearly 100% clogged as the internal parts move around due to road bumps/vibration.

UPDATE!!! - this morning while leaving school my CEL came on..this is the first time it has ever came on since i bought the car 2 years ago..since autozone was down the street and it is free to check codes i went..i can't rememberthe code number(damn short term memory) i think is was 1183 not sure..but it did say it was a tps code..Throttle Posistion Sensor out of range or something like that..i thought i remember reading something on here saying that there was a recall for the sensor..is this true..so i would be able to get this replaced by hyundai for free?..and would this explain all the problems i have been having?
I just had to change my bad TPS. Luckily for me my stock TPS was fine but wouldn't you know it was the TPS off the TB that shark racing sent me. I never had any clue it was a bad TPS, i just thought there was extra lag due to the bigger TB. Changed out the TPS yesterday and the car is running like a champ...oh yeah and the sorry STOCK spark wires were going bad.
