hi my elantra is running hot water is rusty so i flushed it out still running hot heater working when it sits and idles temp is normal but when u drive it over heats any ideas?

 

The coolant should not be plain water, because it will rust. It should also not be rusty. A thermostat that does not open all the way could cause overheating while driving. Pull the thermostat and check it. Or heck, they're cheap and if it's the original your thermostat is old, just get a new one and see if that was it.



If the coolant is actually oily instead of rusty (looks like coffee) then you may have a blown head gasket.

CHANGED the thermostat and that did it thanks for the help.

well this morning i found a leak around thermostat housing tried to tighten the cover an heard a crack any ideas where i can get the housing with out going to dealer?

 

junkyard, just call around to a few of your local yards. I'm sure they would have one and it shouldn't be any more than $20 bucks
