well if i try to unlock the passenger door on the outside with the key, it doesn't unlock. is that supposed to happen?

#1. Make sure that the "lock-out" button is not pressed on the drivers side console.
#2. Turn the key the "other" way. The passenger side door lock is the reverse of the drivers side door, so you need to turn it the other way (at least on my car).

The actuator on the passenger's side is activated by the driver's side, but it doesn't work the other way around.
What you are experiencing is the way it is designed, not a problem.
I hope this helps in avoiding some confusion.

Wait, do you have keyless entry?
If not, then you can unlock the passenger door from the outside, but it will not unlock the driver side. If you unlock the driver side, then both should unlock.
If you do have keyless entry and the passenger's side is not unlocking, then the actuator might have gone bad.

hmm. so if my alarm won't unlock or lock my passenger side door it will be the actuator????
Is there any way you can you fix them?

This is a VERY COMMON Problem with tiburons. The tech at the dealer know about and know some tricks to get it to working.Ok, i have that central door lock thing.(if thats what it is called-where you lock/unlock the drivers door the passenger does the same)

It is a problem in all 97-01 tiburons.
Get use to it smile.gif even if hyundai fixes them they will crap out later.
Its just poor design in the wiring aspect.
Also ****ty quality door actuators.
