I got a clutch masters stage 0 clutch about two months ago and its starting to slip. It's only bad if I tyr to chirp second gear. What can I do? What did I do wrong? Did I glaze the fly wheel?

 

did you properly break it in?

 

improper break in would be the first guess. Did you have your flywheel resurfaced?

How do you know it's slipping? Describe what's going on.

 

yeah I broke it in, I forget how many miles. When I rev out the motor and shift the RPM's shoot up a bit and the it grabs smoothly. I just put a header on, but I don't think thats the problem. It's not like im gonna get 20HP from a header. The real crapper is that can't chirp second gear. I won't slip out of gear like when your clutch go's bad just when I shift hard. Also the fly wheel was resurfaced.

 

this is a long-shot, but who knows. have you adjusted the clutch pedal play bolt recently? i remember i tried taking ALL of the play out of the pedal, and the bolt was adjusted just enough too far to make the clutch slip under heavy loads. dunno

 

I did that befor I had the new clutch. I did just drive it while it was cold and it grabed and chirped second. So it looks like it only happens when its warmed up. ???!!?

Yes, heat does matter. Once the clutch gets over heated, it will glaze over the friction material. Do it too often and it will glaze over permenantly. suicide

 

I don't chirp second that often. But it pisses me off that its slipping. I guess I can't do anything. Do I just baby it for a while, and Hope that it fixes it's self? this sucks.

 

Nope, it won't fix itself. One easy way to tell if it is your clutch. Slow down to 20 mph, put it in 3rd gear and floor it. If the RPMS rise faster than the MPH...yup, it's slipping.

Your problem might be the clutch fluid restrictor. 1997 and 1998's had a "restrictor" in the clutch cylinder that prevented you from "dumping" the clutch. You might have one of those, and if so, removing it should solve your problem.

Let me dig up the diagram that shows you where it is and how to remove it.

 

Wow Random, wish I had known about that little trick last fall. Next time I think my clutch is slipping I'll try it...hopefully years from now. rolleyes.gif
