another fuel filter problem
yes, i serched. i found some useful info. smile.gif what size are the nuts on the bottom of the fuel filter? two different, respectable people from the board told me two different things. one said the bottom fuel line nut is sae, the other said it's metric. the only metric wrench i could fit on it was a 14mm...and that rounded it off a little, so i dug into an sae set. a 9/16 fit the best, and that rounded it off a little. and as far as fitting a wrench to the nut ON the fuel filter, a 3/4 is the closest fit i could get. the guy who said he used a 14mm said he used a 17mm for that nut, but i couldn't get a 17mm on there. i removed the top bolt with much ease. also, maybe i'm stupid. but to loosen the nut on the fuel line on the bottom of the filter, i should turn the wrench towards the firewall, right? it would be as if i'm under the car and tried to finger-losen the nut, right? also, what's the best way to get at the freakin thing? i jacked up the car and took a look. the only advantage i experienced from jacking the car up is that you can actually see the bottome of the fuel filter. but it seems a lot easier to attack it from the top.

you need two spanners
one on the filter the other on the flange nut
squeze the spanners together and the nut should come undone.
the size of the nuts is irrelevant, use a spanner that fits.

maybe i'm dumber than i thought smile.gif what's a spanner? one of my friends mentioned that he's had to use a "fitting wrench" to mess with the fuel filter on some cars. however, he's familiar with 60's muscle cars, but nonetheless, it's worth mentioning.

A spanner is the correct word for what Americans call a wrench!......as the man said, use one on each nut, set like clock hands @ 6.20 & after soaking in WD40 or even brake fluid, just squeeze them to the 6.30 position.

well, i finally got the fvcker off! i bought a flared/fitting wrench. just so you all know, it's 14mm. as far as the nut on the bottom of the filter that you can use to brace it, i used a 3/4" because that's all i had lying around. it wasn't the best fit, but it got the job done. washers? what washers? i didn't see any. hmm the only washer i saw was the washer for the bolt that holds the outlet hose on.
