Default breast cancer

My girlfriend has a history of breast cancer in her family. Shes 24 now. We were talking the other day about when she should start her screenings to make sure shes safe from it or to at least have early detection. Whats a good age for her to start going to the doctors for this?

She should be getting a yearly gyno exam already, and they check for lumps at those visits.

Usually women should start getting mammograms at 40, but if there's a history of breast cancer it's a good idea to get them earlier. It's also very important that she examines herself often.

Just like 187sks had stated, she should have already started. Time for her to call and schedule an appointment.

I was at the Dr. the other day and they have concerns because Breast and ovarian cancer run in my family. They want to send me to the University of Washington to do a genetic test to find out what I am at risk for and how to stop it. I am only 29 and they are talking about starting the mammogram next year.
