To usually buy the first new model that comes out by a company? I have always been told that you should wait a year or two after a new model hits to see what bugs and recalls get worked out first. Is that a good philosophy to follow or is it just paranoia?

I bought my 2000 Tiburon, first year it was offered. The engine and transmission had previously existed in prior models, but I wasn't that concerned with it at the time.

I bought my 2009 Murano in 2008, as soon as it came out. Didn't bother me. Nissan engines reused over various models. New transmission, but still of little concern to me.

2010 Genesis Coupe, bought in 2010. No changes from first offering a year earlier, but I knew what I wanted before I got it.

Cliff Notes: NOPE.

If I'm buying new, I always figure that's what the warranty, lemon law, and high trade in value are for.
