Would you rather have alot of low end power or high end (top speed) power?

If you could have a large amount of power whether it be low end (off the line) or high end (top speed)...which would you rather have?

For me...I would rather have top speed high end power. It always sucks going off the line and doing great until you run out of steam. I prefer to be a little slower off the line but then have explosive power at the top of the rpm band. smile.gif

It totally depends on the car and it's intended purpose.

All you're talking about is gearing really, a car with low end torque but no top end power can get off the line quickly or go fast as long as you gear it correctly for what you want. Same is true for a car with little torque but able to rev high and make good horsepower in the top end.

Best of all though is a engine with a long flat torque plateau. That gives you versatility and reasonable acceleration regardless of where you are in the rpm range.

Low end, on UK roads there are speed cameras everywhere making top end pointless, and when in ques overtaking opportunities are limited, so immediate acceleration is whats needed, I had mine working like this, then messed about again with exhaust and ended up with peak power and no torque, meaning that my wiffes coupe, which is slower than mine, is the better daily drive, and the better overtaker. MKines like a rocket at 5000rpm, but needs to be constantly thrashed to get it working. At 4000rpm its got nothing, and its unuseable on the road. Plans are in motion to change things though.

just depends, really but for the case of the tib its gotta be low-mid power. because it runs out of revs so easily and dosent really even like being pushed to 6k. i am a topspeed person, i'm actually on a quest to get to 200mph only made it to 190 so far. but the tib... well its only strong suit is like 65-100mph really. so for her the torque is where its at.

Thats what I had, along with a 200cpsi cat instead of the OEM 400cpsi one, and the backbox was reduced down to 1.5" hole, so was very responsive, good low-mid range, little at the top, but very useable, however I didn't like the look or the sound, so swapped for a twin 3" backboxes, and all that backpressure has gone, however flys at 5500rpm (chased an Audi S3 on a long straight the other day and pretty much stuck with him until a slow corner where I just couldn't accelerate out of it!). I got -plans though, a 400cpsi cat from an ST202 Celica, and if thats still not enough some baffles, motorbike style, in the exhaust.

Ya the proper amount of backpressure makes all the difference with the torque profile of the engine.
