Isn't more correct to say that overhead cams wether dual or single are more effecient than pushrod motors. There are v8's that are dual overhead cam motors (totalling four cams). Overhead cams reduce the number of moving parts in any motor. Having dual overhead cams in itself is not the performance nirvana that you would hope. The use of DOHC and SOHC is more directly related to manufacturing capabilities of auto makers than anything. They mould have used them in 440 hemi motors had they had the technology. Rember that the cams only let air in and out of the combustion chamber.

True to that Random. My point is on a large scale production auto. I have seen overhed cams on old Bugaties (sp) and other inline motors but they were practicly built by hand and in very low numbers. They even had supercharged SOHC inline 10 and 12 Cyl motors in the 1930s but very very few production cars with those technologies. This is getting off topic though and I will bow out.

DOHC allows more flexibilty over SOHC when tuning the engine, i believe, therefore making it possible for the engine to be more flexible. Honestly, i don't think it really matters how your valve train is set up. The only thing that matters is how big is your bank account/credit limit. tongue.gif
