Was wondering if anyone could share how MPG results were falsified leading to them having to reimburse owners?

Isn't anyone validating this information or does everyone just "take their word at it"?

The radio news said they would use wrong-sized tires and drive with a tailwind without turning around and testing into the wind as well. Pretty blatant.

Who do you want to verify claims, aside from the independent magazines like CR that already do? Should we also have to pay tax dollars to duplicate the private tests? It's pretty obvious you can only get away with it for so long.

I thought that EPA MPG ratings were basically obtained under laboratory conditions, by the EPA? Allowing manufacturers to test their own economy unsupervised is as bad as letting politicians determine their own salaries.
