Hyundai sells one-millionth vehicle in Australia, 26 years after commencing operations

Hyundai has reached an important milestone in Australia with the delivery of its one-millionth new vehicle.
The car in question is an ix35 (known as the Tucson in North America) that was registered on Thursday at John Hughes in Perth, which the company says, was the exact same dealership which sold the very first new Hyundai in Australia, some 26 years ago.
"We're delighted that that the millionth new Hyundai was sold in the same city where it all began back in 1986," said Oliver Mann, Hyundai's Marketing Director. "We will be sending our one millionth customer something special to share in our celebrations."
While it took Hyundai 18 years to reach the 500,000 sales mark, the next half-a-million cars were sold in just 8 years, which has a lot to do with the company's products as well as the establishment of Hyundai Motor Company Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, in 2003.
The Korean company recorded its best-ever sales in the country last year with 87,008 units, equivalent to a market share of 8.6%, through a nationwide network of 150 dealers. Hyundai's highest selling model in Australia is the i30 compact with 28,869 units delivered last year.
Currently, Hyundai is the fifth largest vehicle brand in the country.
