How much would you say your tool collection is worth?

Just tools, not toolboxes or cabinets or power tools like grinders or sawzalls. Mine is about 4,000.

SR Tech 10-26-2014 06:20 PM

I'm thinking AT LEAST 15k, only tools, my storage easily doubles that.

ScoupeLS 10-26-2014 07:26 PM

2-3k and slowly but steady adding up. Precision measuring tools are the reason of it.

i8acobra 10-26-2014 11:40 PM

Not including my boxes... at least $100,000. The boxes alone... about $30,000. I use my tools to make my living though.

Somewhere between $4k and $6k I would guess.

Are all you guys above mechanics and apprentices??.....I'm just a drywaller by trade..My best tool is my hoist, cost a few G's,and prob only 2 g's of assorted auto pro and old craftsman mechanic stuff lol...

XTC29 10-28-2014 04:39 PM

I really have no IDEA. They are worth more to me in what I can make using them vs what I have invested.

I've just accumulated a fair amount over the last 20+ years, was given some as gifts or got whole collections for a good price when people lost storage space.

I'm also guessing. With the compressors, welders, jacks, alignment equipment, etc. it adds up pretty quick. I was counting all of those in the total.

SR Tech 10-28-2014 07:50 PM

Technician by trade. My estimate is just for hand/air/cordless tools

I bought a diagnostic scanner that was almost 3k by itself, and have several test kits that range in the hundreds each that arn't included in that total.

I'd rather not think of how much I've spent on this profession. Probably could have bought a GTR by now.

Very nice looking set-up! Back when I worked the line for Dodge I had that in Snap-on Tools. Then I got "liberated" by some Jerk. Replacement value was $250,000... dumb a** me... no insurance... no more line work... service writer and about 5K in Craftsman. i8, have you ever checked out the replacement value of your set up? Probably 3X what you have stated. Also, that blue Matco is a very nice "office!"

I'm a bit scared too think about how much that is. Just thinking about the green one... probably $20k to replace it and it's contents. Guess I should look for some insurance.

It's amazing how it adds up and replacement costs. My broken back Snap-On ratchet was $14.00 when I purchased it back in the 70's. Amazingly, I still have it as not all was lost... is now well over $100.00 to buy new! Dang I love tools! :happyanim:

About 2500-3000. i8acobra, that blue tool box is amazing! :jawdrop: Love how it doubles as a work bench too with a light.
