The cars were ugly and often broke down. The only reason to buy one was because it was cheap.

Umm... Call me crazy because maybe I am, but these are ugly how?

Apparently, this "putrid" design had an armrest and cupholders while other cars did not. That's enough to convince me to buy it over cars that designs that don't make sense.

The beta still comes in today's latest Hyundais and Kia's, in it's original form, nearly 17 years later. How is that a joke?

Designed at Italdesign, suspension by Porsche and Lotus, dual SRS airbags at a time when its competition hadn't offered them? How is that a joke?

"cars that fell apart."

Uh, no they didn't. Maybe an interior door handle or two cracked... but they never fell apart.

The 1993-1998 Sonata and Elantra had a 4G63? How is this bad? Huh? Wuh?

Sorry, I just don't get what was to joke about...

Hence, why John Krafcik answers:

"By the time we got to the late `90s, we knew that our quality was good. We knew our reputation was horrible."

...and there you have my "crazy" analysis.

No it doesn't.

Excels were horrid. I literally towed a co-worker's home for him once every couple of weeks.
