How do you adjust your side mirrors?
I prefer my side mirrors angled farther out so that it covers a portion of my blind spot. Essentially, I'll sit in place then move my head until it's up next to my driver's side window, then adjust the driver side mirror until I can just see the side of the car. I'll then move my head to the centerline of the car, and adjust the passenger side mirror the same way.
I think the traditional method was always to sit in place (in driving position) and adjust both driver and passenger side mirrors until you can just see the side of the car in each one. The problem I find is that it doesn't give you a wider perspective of what's going on behind you that the main rearview mirror doesn't already provide. I find this leaves the blind spots totally concealed. Some people I know swear by this setup.
Just wondering what the consensus is here...

^^ What he said.
I do it so I can just barely see the edge of my car. Part of my problem though is that my mirrors don't go any farther out than that. Because I have my seat all the way back and reclined just a tad, I need the mirrors facing as far out as possible. However, they do have limits on it, and I can't get them to go any more. It works just exatly right the way it it.
I'm also a stickler for getting blind spot mirrors. I can't tell you how valuable those are. Every car I buy (3 now) gets one put on it. They've prevented countless accidents or running other people off the road, just because I have a clear view of my blind spot. I highly, highly recommend that everyone put these on and get used to them. However, if I'm ever in a car that doesn't have them, I feel really blind, but then quickly learn to twitch my head left to check my blind spot the moment before I move a lane over, and once again about mid-move.
