Default hood heat shield

any benefits or loses removing this???
by the way, im talking about that black thing on the underside of the hood.

im about to get the WRX scoop and i dont know what to do with this.
Should i just remove the whole darn thing, or should i cut a hole in it???

i would like to remove it, so when i open the hood it can have a "cleaner" look.

thanx in advance

You can take it off...it's noise and vibration insulation as well as heat. Some people have found, though, much to their chagrin, that the hood is NOT painted beneath this sheet...some are, some aren't. I believe that most aren't.

That shouldn't be a HUGE deal for you, since you're probably getting your hood repainted when they add the scoop. They can just do that side, too!

I took mine off also and it was painted underneath. As far as gains or loses by taking it off you might hear a little more engine noise and the snow will melt off your hood quicker other than that nothing will happen by taking it off.

Zup Jaws...I took mine off to install mirrors underneath the hood. It wasn't painted, as was a few other people's. Just a tip though...that black insulation has fiberglass in it. So if you don't your hands itching for a couple of days....then be sure to wear gloves of some kind when removing it. I didn't wear any, and I was ready to chop my hands off because they itched so much. sad.gif

In order to get it off...you'll see little round black plugs holding it to the hood. Use either a door trim removal tool...or a regular flat head screwdriver will do. Just be careful because it's easy to scratch the any paint that you do have under there. Good luck! wink.gif

Didn't seem that easy to me to get those friggin little plugs out of there, I think I broke a couple. I'm just an impatience person though!

Where can you buy replacements?

Why do you need replacements if you're taking it off, out of curiosity?
