Buying from snap on tool trucks
Do you have to be a mechanic in order to buy from the snap on tool trucks? I heard that sometimes you can good deals from those guys and since I'm not a professional mechanic I was wondering if I could just show up to where one is parked and buy stuff from them.
The words *good deal* and *snap-on truck* do not go together.
IMO - buying cheaper tools with a lifetime warranty is just as good if you're just a shade tree mechanic (Craftsman?)

If you don't use your tools to make your living, they're not worth the money. If you do, they are. My tools are all Snap-On and Matco. Yes, there is a difference.
most of those tools are extreemly overpriced. they do have a lifetime warranty, then again so does craftman, harborfreight, walmart, lowes, homedepot.
-compare a 35dollar snapon hammer to a 3 dollar cheap hammer. they both make one hell of a hit.
that being said MAC/Snapon hare high quality tools and there are times where that is important so heres a quick list of high quality tools that i've bought
10 good buys (atleast for me)
-1-MAC- safety wire mini pliers- worth the $75-100 i paid, u cant beat them.
-2-snapon- 12 pt socket set, all the nuts and bolts at work are aluminum and theyre soft, a loose fitting tool will round them out quick
-3-ingersalrand- 4x rivet gun
-4-atco- 90deg threaded drill
-5-gearwrench- wrenches
-6-vise grip- long clamps, ranging from 6" to 11" long
-7-yardstore.com-Hilock ratchet
-8-yardstore.com- Ford wrenches
-9-chicago pnuematic - pnuematic drill
-10-mac-machinist files-used these to repair the starter for the left engine on a piper aztec
some bad buys
-1- mac- hammer, my cheap one hits just as hard
-2-Mac-- toothless 1/4 drive ratchet- works great but i just dont like that i cant feel the teeth when i ratchet
-3-streamlight flash light- $120- i worked night shift and it seemed like a good buy. it worked great and was the brightest flashlight i have ever seen but, i had to replace the battery pack every year (50 bux a pop), had to get it rebuilt twice for corrosion, charger broke after 3 years, finaly shelved it for an LED maglite and coulnt be happier
-4-mac- std file set coulve bought the same thing much cheaper
-5-snaopon- pics- again cheap ones work just as well and cost 10X less
-6-harborfreight- clamp set , they suck, they wont stay on whatever you clamp them to cause theyre cheaply built
-7-lowes- tool box- drawers fell out within 1 year (to cheaply built)
I'll edit if anything else comes to mind

One major difference between Craftsman and Snap-On... If I break a Snap-On tool, I don't have to find the time to go to the store to replace it. The store comes to me. Also, my Snap-On tools are much more comfortable and easy to use. Cost doesn't bother me too much since it's a tax write-off for me.
