Default Butane or electrical

Which soldering iron is better to use for small wiring projects? Butane or electrical? I read different opinions and I guess Im asking HA what they prefer.

Electrical. Too easy to melt the insulation (and fingers) with butane.

after using a cheap version of both, my preference is the cheap butane. though ^ he brings up a good point, you learn how to work around it quickly.



i've never had a good electric soldering iron. that would probably change my tune.

Ungar or Pace, Hako as a close second.



Butane is for sealing hermetic enclosures or doing large cables.

I've used one of the cheapest butane soldering irons getting around:







It sucks because the carbon dirties the wires, making for a terrible joint. It works when you are in a pinch though. Electric irons seem to do the trick for me, but a portable butane one would be extremely handy IMO.
