Default beta2 N/A performance

I've read that its possible to get 200whp out of an N/A beta2 engine.. Im just wondering exactly what kinda work needs to be done to see this kind of improvement... I mean, I know about the usual cat-back, headers, CAI, bbtb, etc, but the HP gains from those don't seem to be on the order necessary to give that kind of an HP boost. Does port/polish and valve job really improve the performance that much? Are there major performance mods I am not thinking of?

There's alot you can do to the Beta to get pretty close to 200 HP. I'm assuming you want 200 HP at the wheels and not flywheel?

There's the usual things like CAI, cat back exhaust, and header. Other things are:

- BBTB
- BBIM
- High lift race cams
- valve job
- blueprint and balance
- new lower compression pistons and seals
- ported head
- cylinder bore
- ground wire kit
- underdrive pulley sets
- lightened flywheel
- bigger injectors
- adjustable FPR
- Engine management system (standalone or piggyback)

ALot of those mods, people would do if they were going with boost. But if you did them on an N/A car, you would get pretty close to 200 hp. Some people consider nitrous to be N/A depending on who you talk to. You could use that as well if you wanted to get to 200 HP very quickly. smile.gif

Good luck....

^^Don't you mean High comp pistons?? Low comp pistons without boost will actually hurt performance. The main drawback for the beta is the heat, it has horrible airflow. A port, polish and 5 angle valve job would be neccesary(comes with a 3 angle from the factory) along with larger valves, larger cams, and better springs. Kspec sells 13.1 comp pistons, but you would have to run race gas and have a full standalone to run those.
Another drawback is that the factory ECU runs pig rich. I ran my car on a dyno with just an intake, the Air/Fuel ratio was at 11.8 when read with a wideband. For an NA car it would be safe to be between 15 and 20. The only way to achieve this would be a standalone ecu.

^haha...yeah....meant to say high comp....I was in a rush when typing that out, so didnt think it through more when typing it. tongue.gif

But ultimately...I guess we should ask...do you want 200 hp at the wheels or at the flywheel, because that will be a big difference as to what mods you do and dont do. Also, do you want 200 all the time or on the fly (using nitrous)? Give us more info as to what you want to accomplish and we can help out a bit better. smile.gif
