Battery Relo to Trunk
Hey all,
I would like to move my battery to the trunk for two reasons:
open up a big-ass hole for a CAI
distribute the weight a lot better.
I was thinking of using the Summit Racing relo kit (red) and positioning it in the passener side of the trunk. At the same time, I was considering getting header wrap and buying some 2.5/2.75" flexible pipe to make a Random Special CAI and route my Ractive filter right to the opening that the battery covers. I would probably then cut some heavy-duty plastic to make a firm fit on the side (and hide my alarm siren).
Questions:
What are the potential problems?
Where should I run the ground?
How should I run the wires?
Will the kit fit our batteries (I'll measure tonight, but I wasn't sure)?
Thanks,
a

If you get a "dyna-Batt" they are 1/4 the size of normal batteries, dry and do not require venting, and only weight 13 lbs.
You can run the ground to any part of the car frame or body. You should remove the interior paint to do a metal on metal contact to insure a good ground, you should then paint OVER the ground connection to make sure that you don't rust that spot out.
You should run the wires under the carpeting inside the passenger compartment as much asyou can. You can then run it down the frame rails back to the engine compartment.
The tiburon batteries vary. Some Tibby batteries are HUGE more than 14" long and 12" deep, others are about 12"x8". Your best bet is to measure your battery, then ask for the dimentions of the various different boxes.
There are no potential problems, other than possibly puncturing your battery in the case of a rear/rear side collision which MIGHT/COULD spray acid inside the passenger compartment.

I think the easiet and most effective soloution is to go with the DynaBatt. I think total cost relocation items and hassle for the gain of weight balance will be much greater than a much smaller and significantly lighter battery in the stock location for the gain of weight reduction. Removing 3/4 of the battery volume should afford you plenty of room for a CAI, right? I've been considering swapping over to this battery, too, so that I can make a little more room overall in the engine compartment for general air circulation and more room for the cold-box I'm going to fabricate in conjunction to the rally-style hood I'm getting from HVe.
Unfortunately, my filter is going where the battery is. The Ractive filter has a heat shield on it and my Revision A tib has very little room (because of the evap cannister) in the fenderwell. So completely moving the battery seems to be my only option.
You're right, though. If you just needed to run pipe though there, the smaller battery would work great.
And I don't mind the hassles of the relocation. Fun with tools and a soldering iron.
