Default AC

Question: When I hit on my AC..performance goes way down..i mean way down...I bet a honda could even beat me with it on. Is this normal on 2k Sharks? Can i do anything to help this issue out? Install a higher amp altturantor? I once saw a post <racing> where a peep left his AC on..and won the race...could there be truth to this? Maybe something is screwey with my ac motor..or another part...any thoughts?

This a normal occurance on almost all 4 cly. cars. Actually you are better of than most Hondas because we have a large amount of tourqe compared to them. My friends GSR Integra had horrible problems with performance with the AC on. That was until he had massive head work done to improve his tourqe. His car (remeber that it is a GSR) only had about 120ft/lbs of tourqe compared to our 2.0 ltr motor. If you want speed you may have to deal with the heat.

Any mod you do for increase in power will help in offsetting the pull-down from your ac
compressor. But creature comforts some time have to give way to gofast goodies.

All I do is hit the ac compressor button on the dash right before the race and put it back on after I beat that azz. As long as a race lasts you won't even notice a change in the temp. of the air, unless you keep driving and forget to put it back on.
It's the compressor that puts all the strain on the motor.

This is a normal problem with 4 cylinder car.

There are some things you can to to help the problem though.

#1 New belts grip better than old belts (every 20000 miles).
#2. Make sure your belts are not too tight. If your belts are too tight, you are putting too much drag on the motor.
#3. An "underdrive" pulley would help, but not reccomended.

when racing turn off air and leave windows up..

when not racing and cruising still leave the ac off and roll the windows down and CHILL.

Yeah, once you turn off your AC before a race and you've worked your engine for a while...it is not a good thing to turn your AC on right away. I've known from past experiences where it was dramatic to the engine and wore it down faster a carton a day smoking man would do to his single lung. I suggest you leave it off till you come to a stop or cut your engine off and restart then push the AC button. Knowledge is a good thing.
