These will look like the RD2 which have a larger section that is smooth, but the only diff, will be that these have NO vents, or holes. They'll be straight, carbon fiber, but only on the flat surface that is visible from the outside. The rest of the cowl will be shiny black FRP. I'll get chops up.

Wait, NO vents or holes?

How do you get air then? Those vents are there to get air into the heater/air conditioner.

^^ Yeah, I posted the same on the CF products forum because there was a comment on this specific product. It would NOT be a good idea to replace that part with a no-vents part; that area is a low pressure area on the vehicle, that´s why the air for the ventilation system comes from there...
sure you would not notice too much of a difference if you set your ventilation at the lower speed, but in a very hot day, when you need all the air you can get to cool it down, you could suffer from low airflow.

I am not sure, but I don't think those vents are just plain decorative...

it wouldnt be a good idea not to have the vents for the cowl. if it has to be made without them, i will just use the money already sent for something else.

What do you guys think about having some think horizontal cuts in the cowl? Just think of it like this. Somebody has to take a sheet of CF and add it to a FRP cowl. It'll just look nice on top of the FRP, like CF hoods. The problem, is have you ever seen FRP or CF with this intricate of little holes??? I doubt it. So maybe something like this

What do you think?

Cause right now, the holes are everywhere, like

I'd pay 300 hundred for some carbon fiber ones with the whole's cut out in letters saying "RdTiburon.com"

haha.gif

I wish...but yes those holes are where the air comes from. Turn on your AC to full blast and you can hear and feel the air being sucked in.

Chris, good thinkin, as long as there are some type of holes/slits/vents, it should be okay.

You don't have that much air going through there, it's not like it's a CAI or anything... as long as you have there some kind of holes (could be two lines paralel to the cowl like you draw) and they are not tiny, it would be OK.

Yeah chris, they don't have to be identical. I'd be happy with it just having some slots for air to come thru.

since the cowlings will be CF, why not just drill holes into them? simple as that?

that'll look so much tighter than anything.
