Default Why do headlights oxidize but corner signals dont?

My headlights are hazing up a tad which I plan to take care of and clear them up. But my clear signal corner lights are spotless and perfect. Why do headlights haze and oxidize but corners dont?

If you were to get a new turn signal and compare it to an old one you would see that the old one is faded. Just not as much as a headlight. I guess it's partly because the headlights are more up front and more likely to catch scratches but IDK really

I thought the headlights were glass and the corner markers were plastic. So maybe glass oxidizes quicker than plastic does?

Only old cars and newer cars based on old designs tend to have glass. SFl5qFc.gif

You would think the world's top companies would have come up with a solution for all that by now I mean it's been nearly 20 years ince plastic headlights were mandated. I think they just want the car to look old after a few years so people end up buying new cars.

Mandated nearly 20 years ago? Nothing was mandated.

Idk about now, but just a few years ago you could get several different Ford and GM base models with glass headlights. Most of them were sold as fleet vehicles, Full sized trucks and vans, and the Chevrolet Colorado, just off the top of my head.

I was sure there was a ban but I must be wrong. I'm sure the FMVSS and NHTSA have some safety regulations in place for glass headlights. FMVSS website only says it has to be SAE approved so it appears as if you're correct.
