I would not start out with a rubbing compound. Thats way too abrassive for what you need. I've had this problem. You do not want to remove clear, just the residue. Get yourself either some 3M POLISHING compound, or, this stuff in a yellow bottle called Scratch Out. Maguires also makes a "Scratch out" brand that works well too. A straight up rubbing compound is overkill IMO. Save your clear and just go with a good polishing compound and call it a day.
