Default Using Microfiber towels made waxing quite difficult..

Yesterday I decided to hand wax my tib. After washing it thoroughly, I began to apply Mother's Carnauba liquid wax using a microfiber towel. To my surprise, the microfiber towel was sucking up the wax! So much so that I couldn't establish a "haze" on the body of the car. To make matters worse, the instructions provided by Mothers indicated that I should continually fold the towel to a "clean" side to avoid contaminants from affecting the finish.

I ultimately switched to a microfiber towel that wasn't as thick as the towel I started with but I still had to contend with a small amount of absorption before the wax would apply correctly. I ended up using that same towel for the two coats of wax I applied. The end result was very nice but I still can't come to grips with the whole process. I feel like I did something wrong despite the end result.

Could any of you wash and wax wackos chime in and fill in some of the gaps I seem to have in my head? Thanks!

I personally just use those cheapy 3-for-$1 applicators you can pick up at any major auto parts store. Never had a problem. dunno.gif

Are you sure that you're not actually scrubbing when you apply the first coat?

The point of microfiber towels is to suck up and hold the junk from the surfaces as you wipe. It should not surprise you that it does this. Use a regular soft cloth (read: cotton) to apply wax.

Yep. A towel is designed to absorb. An applicator is designed to apply.
