Does anyone know what a person can use to get old tree sap off of paint? I've tried almost everything, goo gone, wd40, whatever I could get my hands on.

My car had a good bit of sap and leaves stained/stuck to it, on a custom limegreen paint job..so it was very noticeable, I just used a sponge, soap and water, and got it all off. had to use my fingernail on some spots where it was really stained. But, also I got lucky..right before we took it to the shop, I had washed and waxed it with lucas wax. My advice, after you get it cleaned up..use it. It's amazing.
edit: You can pick it up at pretty much any advance auto parts, or autozone. it's relatively cheap.

Get 2000 grit wet sand sandpaper and use liquid soap and lots of water to sand it off. Then use a good scratch removal polish to clean up the scratches.
Just take your time and do a little at a time.

Wouldn't the gasoline eat away the paint? I know diesel does, but dunno about normal gasoline
don't really know, but i've spilled gas on my paint from topping off plenty of times with no problems.

guys...any bug&tar remover is petrol based which is the same as gas.
as long as you dilute it every once in awhile you have no problems. i just used gas on my car last week to remove some really stubborn doubled sided tape, on brand new paint...no problems.
