NightClub....here are some things to think about if you do a convertible conversion.
1) Since your car didn't come equiped with this mod from the factory, you will be lessening the structure of your car. You will have to do some extensive modifications to your car in order to get it close to a factory durability.
2) You can either do a regualr convertible that will allow you to remove the top and replace it, or you can do a roadster conversion. The roadster conversion is basically a full time convertible, so forget about driving when it's raining out.
Also, by doing a roadster conversion, you will have to weld in some kind of roll bar to your frame. You could get real custom with that.
3) If you go with the removable top, there are 2 ways to do it. If you go with a soft top, you will have to find a company that can make custom convertible tops for you car. Sometimes certain upholstery shops will do this for people, depending on how involved you want to get with it. With soft tops, there will have to be a frame with hinges connected to the soft top so that it can be folded down and stored.
The other way is with a removable hard top. You can either find a company that will make a fiberglass top for you, or you can use your existing top. You have to take 4 pieces of hard plastic to use as the connector's. 2 in the front (1 on body, 1 on top) and 2 in the rear. Since this is a custom mod, you will also have to find some kind of metal clips that will allow you to fasten the top to the body, for when you want to place it back on the car.
4) If you decide to use the factory roof/top, then you WILL NOT be able to do this mod with a sun roof. The top/roof will be too flimsy to cut with a sawzall. You can only attempt to do this with a roof that doesn't have a sunroof. Otherwise, if you DO have a sunroof, you will have to find a place that can make you a custom fiberglass top.
5) Once you cut out the roof, you will have to cut the hatch out also, and create some kind of trunk made out of more fiberglass/sheetmetal. This will consist of making a rear wall that starts right below your rear window, and and installing the trunk with hinges onto this.
Very extensive modification. This is something that no amateur should try and do themselves. Have a very reputable shop handle this mod because you are literally cutting up the entire top of your car. There's alot of tap welding involved, as well as body molding and new paint. You're also looking at a very hefty price tag to have this done. But if you have the capital gain to back it up, then go for it.
Good luck!

Nightclub...if you're thinking about having this done, I might know someone that can custom make the brackets and fasteners for the top. It's expensive, but let me know if you're interested. L8TR.....
