Is there anything that I can purchase as a direct replacement for my antanae I mean every time that I drive through the automatic car washes the thig always gets hit and it is just stationary and I was wondering if there was something stationary like the ones that the Mercury Cougar have?

Hyundai sells an auto re-tracting antenna.

Guys sell it on e-bay all the time for about 20 bucks.

I rigged in a black rubber sport antenna. I did it mainly for looks, but it picks up stations pretty well. It's a simple $20 "universal" sport antenna bought from AutoZone or Pep Boys. The one I bought came with several two-ended screw adapters of different diameters...I just had to figure out which one fit my threads and screw the other end into the antenna.

Unfortunately, the kit was for American cars, so all the adapters were English, and the threads on the car were metric. None of them matched perfectly. I made it work by jamming a short section of leather shoelace into the hole to bind up between the metric threads on the car and the English threads on one of the adapters that would otherwise be too small. Worked just right!

It's not a great pic for illustration, but you can see the antenna here:

I got my antenna from Pep Boys. It's a little stubby ampliflied "universal" antenna. It wasn't universal for the Tib because the angle of the stock antenna is too great for it to be a direct replacement so I had to do a 2 hour custom job on it involving some Dremel tool action and epoxy....I like it though because it looks alot cleaner on a black car. The stock one kept unscrewing from the base and was a pain. Here's a pic. and yeah yeah, my car's stock.. tongue.gif
