Default Shaved hatch

9 out of 10 people will read that as shaved snatch I bet. Anyway, is the hatch release inside the car connected to the keyhole or is it separate? I’m asking because if something was to happen and I couldn’t get access to the hatch from outside (key fob goes dead, etc), the interior release would be my fall back. I guess I could always keep the keyhole in place, but have a piece of metal welded over it and then have the body smoothed over, but something about that seems not right.

I shaved the keyhole on my 2000 Tiburon and simply used the interior hatch release. I had never used the key, anyways.

If it came down to it, you could simply access it through the backseat, since it is a hatchback with 50/50 folding.

I just put a piece of cardboard in the hole so it wasn't all body filler, then put body filler on top to make it even and sanded smooth to my fiberglass bumper. Had it for 8 years after that without any problems. As long as someone does good work, it shouldn't be an issue.
