Bondoglass. You're going to have to do some custom work. Try unbolting it, laying down some ceran wrap and then using bondo glass to mush it into place. Make it look decent by removing the rest of the bondoglass with some sand paper, then fill in the pits with bondo. Repaint the thing and put it onto the car.

Here are a few shots at my new project....

Spoiler just sitting on hatch.

Yeah my tails are tinted now...and there's alot of holes in the hatch...

Holes will be filled as I work on my spoiler.
what do you recommend??

first off.. how many spoilers have you had on the tib.. lol theres more holes than in a piece of swiss cheese. lmao.gif

secondly, with previous experience getting a shark spoiler on a rd2. ( i had one on my car for about a week or so )

i would use bondo glass. or the easy way is to get some type of thick gasket foam and bolt it on as is. the foam will form to both surfaces, and if you keep it black wont be super noticable.

fyi, i think it would look good in black on the yellow tib with tinted tails.

for the bondoglass/bondo project, its not very hard, but a lil time consuming. just kinda eyeball the areas that need filler, then just throw some bondoglass on there, and let it dry pretty much all the way. bring it back to the car, set it on there and see where you need to sand/add more bondoglass. this should take about 2-3 applications from going back and forth. then sand it down as smooth as you can and fill the pits/rough spots with bondo. sand with 80, then 200, then 400, then 600 and it should be ready for primer.

but in my personal opinion, i would try some type of 3/8" or w/e foam, cut it to the shape and lay it on if you plan on keeping spoiler black. would look pretty normal.

I don't know about the foam thing. It looks like you mounted the holes in the wrong spots. Have you ever done body work before? Why don't you even have 2 spots touching the car?

I think I know what you are talking about. My dad was saying something like you are but could think where to get it.

Yeah I am going to keep it black, so do you know where I can possibly get the foam type gasket?? If not I will just bondo glass it.

Like I said its just sitting on hatch, not bolted down....

go to a hardware store.. just look around. i have seen the stuff before and am sure it will work. just wont look as good as bondoglass.

even do a combination of the two. put a little bondo glass on the spoiler to have it conform to the general shape of the rd2 hatch, then use thinner foam material. that way, at the front and back, the foam wont be flat, with like 3/8" of foam in the middle.

add like 1/4" of bondoglass to the deepest part of the spoiler ends, then smooth it out to the front/back of the base while keeping a SLIGHT concave shape and you should be good to go.

For mine, we used this stuff that looked like the crap they use to put in windshields. It was similar, bonded to the spoiler, took on the shape of the trunk, and hardened to the point where you wouldn't even know it was used after its painted.

it CAN be done....
