Ok, I've been jones'n for totally ruby tails for about a year now, and the Ruby LED tails are on hiatus until more LEDs show up at my door. My problem was that I didn't want to lose my backup lights, and I didn't want to relocate them at this point.
I came up with this brainstorm last night... I bought some red metal cast color spray, and experimented with an extra tail I had laying around. This is what I ended up doing today.
I took them apart, painted the blinker part of the lens red, and the chrome chamber of the backup lights red. This way, obviously, the blinker is red. When the backup light is off, it's pretty red from the red chrome through the clear lens, but when the light is on, it's still white through the clear lens... laugh.gif
I have pics of the process, but they're on a digicam that I don't have the cable to, so I can't download right now.

Taking the tail apart is sorta tricky, not only do you need to pry apart the glue, there are little tabs around the light. I cracked the one in the pic above, (about an inch long in the blinker), but the paint actually helped hide it. I filled it with auto clearcoat and it's fine.
No mass production stuff for me... I handed that off to Blacktibs last year with the haloz stuff, and he took that stuff to the next, next, next level. Anyone could do this, it's about a 3 hour mod (including dry time), you just have to be carefull with the separating of the lens, and making sure to re-seal it up good to keep the moisture out.
