If it looks good in a person's opinion, then it's not played out. Not all people want to follow the trend and do what everybody else is doing or what the current fad is. I personally don't give a sh*t what the current trend is. If PD accents/wheels/etc look good IMO, then I'm going to do it.

Yep. I <3 plastidip. I've got several pieces I wanted black on my cars so I plastidipped them. No matter how careful I am with paint, it always runs, gets crap in it, etc. Sanding and working all that out isn't fun, so I use plastidip.

Nothing like spraying a $2 can of rubberized paint all over your car to be "cool"
Some people like it, others hate it. What ever floats your boat.

^ I'm glad you understand that we do this because we're constantly seeking approval of other drivers on the road
A whole car, yea that's a bit much, although seen it done up very nice several times

I'm going to plastidip my wheels. I can get the color and finish I want and it's easily repaired.
I use plastidip where it's appropriate. I would do a whole car if I was going for that look. I am unconcerned with what trends are popular I just want it to look the way I want it to. I had a matte blue Blazer in 1997. I've always liked matte, but matte paintjobs are kind of difficult to live with. Plastidip is easy to fix.

It really depends on your intention. If you want to cover some paint damage and scratches, PD would be a good option, but if you just want to change the color I would say its kinda off for my taste.
