My state says that orange/amber bulbs are required for turn signals. I see a lot of people with blue get pulled over and cited for it. Never saw anyone get anything for white bulbs. I wonder if red bulbs in the rear would get me a ticket if I switched to them. Don’t some cars come with red bulbs from the manufacturer? I could use it as an argument if I ever did get pulled over or had to go to court.

Red should be OK in the rear. My state says red or amber in the rear and clear to amber in the front. Blue or green at any location will get you a talking to by the police.

There is 99.95% certainly an FAQ for your State on the Internet somewhere. The law varies by State. Ask the State department of transportation or motor vehicles, not random car people. In Texas we have a number where you can call DPS and ask about inspection pass/fail stuff. Specifically do NOT ask a Policeman.
red rear turn signals are perfectly fine. Most OEM are clear bulbs with a red lens.
red front turn signals will most likely get you a ticket.
Check out DiodeDynamics, a forum vendor here. He has LED turn signal bulbs (specifically the dual filament type) that can be white when on and change to a different color when flashing. I have white LEDs that turn yellow for flash. I know he has other colors, not sure which bulb types they're compatible with.
