Rear Hatch
Anyone know if the rear hatch is the same for rd1's and rd2's...?
reason i ask is because ii want to order the oem shark wing and put this on my rd2. just wondering b/c every place that i've talked to that sells the shark wing says that it wont fit, but to my knowledge the hatches are the same.... right?
is it just a matter of screw holes for the oem rd2 wing vs the oem rd1 wing? or is it actually a different hatch?
screw holes i can deal with.
i have heard people say that it fits "with modification" , can anyone elaborate?

The hatch won't fit "as is" because of the shape around the taillights, the rest is ok. And the shape is also different (the RD1 is rounder).
You'll have to reshape the area near the taillights, i.e. extend a little bit the inner corners... if you take two rear pics of an RD1 and an RD2, you'll understand what I mean.

To fit the shark wing to the RD2 hatch, you'll have to modify the mounting of the Shark wing (shave it flat), or modify the hatch (build it up).
The RD1 hatch has a slight curve to it. the RD2 hatch is nearly straight/level. It can be done, but if you're not good with body work, Have a auto-body shop do it.

actually.. the RD1 hatch is VERY rounded.. the RD2 has a vestigial lip spoiler thing going on. Listen to Random though, if you are not comfortible with body work, don't attempt this at home.

its a very easy job actually, i bought shark wing, and FGed it all in about 2 hours. had a pretty close fitment, and then was going to add a lil bondo for final touches, but then i ended up selling it because i got a free Type-R wing which IMO looks better, and fit in the stock holes so i didnt have to deal with anything..
BTW,: it was my first time working with FG or anything of the sort, all you gotta do is just keep sanding, putting it up to car, seeing where u need to add some Fg, etc.
tibby01 has my customized shark spoiler now. like i said it wasnt finished when i sold it, but was getting there.
