Does anyone know if an RD2 hatch will fit on an RD1, without the need for any other parts? I'm thinking about losing the wing altogether but I'm not a huge fan of the roundness of the RD1 boot/hatch. I'd still want to retain the RD1 rear bumper & tails though.
I've studied numerous pics of both generations & it looks like it'd be a fairly straightforward swap with only very minor cutting of the RD2 hatch (around the tail-lights, obviously). Can someone please confirm whether or not this is as simple as I imagine/hope it will be? Would the hatch line up with the stock RD1 rear bumper?
Here's sorta what I mean...

^ Yeah, I know I can swap everything over but I'm wanting to find out if just the hatch can be swapped over... I don't want to change the tails or the bumper.
If it can be done, I'm pretty sure I could get an RD2 hatch for only a few hundred bux.
If I can't swap just the hatch, I might consider just a very small spoiler like the one on some Audi TTs. Or maybe a custom 3rd brakelight similar to the one on the Honda S2000's trunk. That might give it the lift I want.

I LOVE your idea!
BTW, i drive a spoilerless 1st gen, yet i always found the RD2's hatch to be ore attractive....
I think that the point where the hatch touches the lights will have to be changed.
Other that that, the rear quarters are the same,
oh yes, unfortunatelly it seams that the height of the rear bumper is different... ore problems..... I hope it laches the same...
Maybe when the Carbon flyryde hatch will be made, it might be modified to look like that.
I'd get one.... try talking to Chris.

Yes it will work. You need to trim around the tailights, and everything else should fit. The latches latch in the exact place. Nothing mounting wise is different between the 2.

anything can be done with time and money... and why dont you just cut up an RD2 hatch where that spoiler part is and have it molded on to the RD1 hatch.. would be alot easier, i would think, just need to know someone who knows fiberglassing well..
and btw, anyone know whose car that is.. i remember when they did that project with the rear fenders, and it looks sweet. i just cant remember the member name.

^ I know the car (with the "pumped" rear fenders) you're thinking about but it's not this one.
This is the pic I modified...
BTW, the reason I'd want to swap the whole hatch if I was to do it at all is because I like the shape of the RD2 rear glass too... I reckon it works well with the spoilerless look on the RD2.
