Is this possible.....and how hard?
I have a '98 tiburon and was told that the 2nd gen tibs fenders would fit on mine. I got to wondering if it was possible to convert the front end from the 1st gen to the 2nd gen? Is it as simple as getting a front bumper cover, a 2nd gen hood and lights or is it more complicated that that?

Yup, you can do a complete conversion. I don't remember all the parts but if you do a search, you will find them.

ya, the front fascia is different, but the light assemblies underneath them are the same. it's really just a new body on the gen1 tib. i've never researched it (because i own the BADDEST 2g around), but you should only need the hood, front fascia, and that's about it. there might be some different mounting points. dunno other than that, i think it's pretty straight forward

I was under the impression that the front fenders were different between the 2 gens. Visually it looks like it fits or at least could be made to fit. In any case, do a search, I think this topic was covered.

Uhm, Turby, you're drunk. The Headlight assy's are different.
Here's the list I remember...
1. Hood
2. Headlight Assy's
3. Front Bumper
4. Clear Corners... (Maybe)
For the rear...
1. New hatch.
2. New Taillight Assy's
4. New rear fenders
5. New rear bumper
I don't remember #3. wink

To convert gen1 to gen2 front or gen2 front to gen1 front.
1. Hood
2. Headlights
3. Turnsignals
4. Radiator Cross brace complete (from fender to fender). This part will have to be cut and welded.
5. Hood latch
6. Front Bumper
For the rear, not really possible, but if you are 100% determined.
1. New hatch.
2. Hatch support bars/lifts (hatches are different weight)
3. New Taillight Assy's
4. Rear 1/3 of the car will have to be cut off and welded on.
5. New rear bumper
The hatch opening is not the same from gen1 to gen2. Hatch closing outline is not the same from gen1 to gen2. You need to take the entire rear 1/3 of the car over. Like I said, basically impossible, but if you are determined, and have an unlimited budget...theoretically doable.
It would be 1000x easier to just pay a body shop to "convert" the front end/rear end you like to your body style than to attempt either switch/swap.

Tony, I've got pics of Sam's Cuda, it's a 1st gen he turned, front AND back, into a 2nd gen. Those were the parts he told me needed changed.
How did he do it then?

Then how do you know it's a gen1 converted and not a gen2? he turned, front AND back, into a 2nd gen.
Email me the photos if you have them.
