polyurithane stop with the fiberglass body kits
Please Sam and other makers of the tibi body kits. this is true and lots of people know probably even you Sam. Fiberglass SUX I should know I have two fiberglass front ends (SHARKRACING AND HDK) Love the kit but we need to get some urithane kits so we wont have any of the F*cking Cracking, easy braking, and harder to fit to car.
Urithane bends more easily and ways much less then fiberglass. Might cost a little more to make and bye but it is worth it. because it all adds up when you have to repair it for the following reasons I listed before if any one can do anything about this or just wants to add to my same feelings just right it down.
Ps. Dont know how to spell urithane.

Both material have their pros and cons. Urethane is way harder to repair if you can even repair it, if it were damaged and fiberglass can be repaired easily, but then again fiberglass is less resistant to impacts and urethane a lot more impact resistant. I myself have the urethane WW front lip and when I first held I though "geesh this weighs some good lbs". I have also held complete front bumpers made of fiberglass and they weigh about the same or less at than my front lip, in fact the SR Z-Fenders hardly weigh a lbs they are so light when compared to my urethane WW front lip. So urethane is not always lighter than fiberglass, usually depends on the design of the part as well. There are different material grades of both urethane and fiberglass, so if the manufacturers use the decent to top quality material grades of these with a good design, the end result is a quality lasting kit regardless of it being fabricated from urethane or fiberglass.

The problem with urethane kits as opposed to fiberglass kits is that urethane has to be injection molded, it can't be "layed up" like fiberglass can into a mold. According to Wings West, a typical mold for a full urethane kit costs around $85,000 for the development and creation of it.
That's a lot of kits you'd need to sell to make up for it.

If the WW kit is urethane, I just cannot believe that they invested 85 grand in a kit that they can't sell that many of... Anyway, like the guys above have said, one of the main reasons urethane isn't used more to make body kits is the cost. I know it's cheaper than 85 grand, but it sure is more expensive than a fiberglass mold.

you know how im making a front bumper for my car. stock bumper is urethane cost me US$200 and the bumper (venom kit for 2001 honda civic)im cutting is fiberglass. what can i use to put those two bumpers to stick together and look like one piece. im going to screw a mass to screws on them so it wont fall off. yesterday was the second day i worked on it. over here in la i can get a fiberglass mold for US$900 and US$200 for copies. not bad for me anyways. ill try to get some pics of my bumper looks goooood though.

NeHa, you can use a putty or an apoxy to fill in where you are using screws to bond the peices together. YOu said you are making molds of this? If so are you making the final product out of fiberglass? If so when you are done making the molds, you can fill in the spots like I said with a bodt putty, before you lay the fiber glass for the final mold product. I have been making a body kit and hoods for my car for about 3 to 4o months now, and I am working with 3 guys that work with fiberglass everyday for a living, so I have resources and can awnser about anything for you if needed. now im not too sure if the maker of the front bumper wants me to make a mold. he wants to keep with his close friends. cause the f. bumper im using was one of his friends. whoops. right now i have the fiberglass f. bumper attached to my stock urethane bumper. driving around with it. i already sliced the edge of the fiberglass bumper to fit. now i have to retrim some spots. i need to resin the side cause its short. major load of bondo here and there. then im ready to get it painted. maybe 3-5 more days. working on it alone.
