Painting The Stock 5-star Rims
I was thinking about sanding down the stock rims on my RD1 and painting them a glossy black.

Would I need to sand the rims down first and maybe primer them???? And what kind of paint is the best to use on that kind of surface that won't chip too easily or bubble??? My stock one's are kinda beat up so I'd rather paint them than buy new rims and I'm missing one of my center caps if anyone has extras to sell me!!! Let me know any suggestions as well

It would look nice but with painting I dont think it would hold up. Best bet would be powdercoating but for that price buy new wheels. my suggestion: new wheels. ebay has tons for cheap.
I painted my 01 stock wheels a couple times. They're my winter wheels, so I didn't care too much how they held up. First year I went flat black with high-temp spray paint. Crappy idea, they held up decently, but the dirt and mud of the winter gripped on to the flat finished surface. The next year I painted them Duplicolor 2 part Wheel Paint. They held up quite well, but after 2 years of only winter driving, they've chipped and bubbled just a bit. I sanded and scuffed them before paint... not enough to take the paint completely off, just enough for the paint to grip the surface well.

Yes, any Autozone or Advance Auto Parts should have it (or any auto store for that matter)... Just get a couple cans of color (Black, White, Gunmetal or Silver) and a couple cans of Clear. They work together to make a very durable finish. Still no match for a professional paint or powdercoating, but it's a heluva lot cheaper though. Here's an old link that I posted when I first used it...

phorq you and your pink accent hahaha. saving the life of your tiburon day after day. i love it.
yeah you can send the rims to a powdercoating co. there are a few places that do powdercoating where i live but i just don't feel like dealing with them. you would pay a higher price to ship the rims or powdercoat them. you might as well just clean the ballz off them, spray over the stock paint and wait it out until you get some nice rims.

Is the Duplicolor Black a glossier black than just like Krylon flat black cuz that's what I wanted but not if it was going to be very dull or should I just add a few extra coats of clear coat??? I was probably going to tape off the lip too and leave that silver so it stands out
