Default New to the scene --- need some tips

Hey all, I'm a 2000 tib owner and just recently had 2 choices, either sell the damn thing or change the look.

To many others have caught on to tibs since I baught mine. The dealer says they sold 2 times the number of 2001's as they did 2000.

So, I just started work on my car and will continue it in the spring.

Mods:

Evo - 5 spoiler
Colour Gauges
Rear window visor

Next spring

New wheels and Tires (like Tenzo and Panter)

After that I'll probably look at a body kit to match up with it all.

However any other tips would be appreciated and most importantly what should I do for paint. Currently I'm looking at my Cobalt Blue and Bright yellow mix for the paint.

However I thought about doing a white and blue mix since I could match up the colour with White Wheels.

What do you all think and PS: hello to you all.

Evo - 5 spoiler

I think the evo-5 spoiler only fits on the first gen tibbys... Although I like it A LOT better than the evo-6 (which is for the second gens)...

On a side note, not looking to touch the engine for a LONG time. I don't have enough money that I can afford to screw my warranty. So right now just working on the body.

Yes I asked the guys over at Sharkracing they said the EVO-5 Will fit the 2000 but it might require me to adjust the wing angle slightly.

Hey,

I also just started fixing up my tiburon too. Mine is a 97 though. I think ure ideas sound great. I am thinking of doing a lot of the same thing. My question was though where would be the best place to go for paint? I want it to look good. I am not thinking of doing anything special, just one color. A friend suggested Maaco. I guess there is some deal like $500 with 4-year warrenty. Well just seeing if u guys had any ideas thanks.

Bitch slap that friend. Friends don't let friends get their cars painted at Macco.

Same with "A1 one day paint and body" and "earl Schieb".

When it comes to a paint job, you get what you pay for. A $500 whole car paintjob will not have a clear coat on it, and will look dull in about a year.

Expect to pay $1500 minimum for a full car paint, that does not involve painting the door sills, trunk/engine bay. If you want the "whole enchilada", expect to pay about $2000 mininum.

You get what you pay for. You are going to have to stare at a crappy paint job every day you own the car...and it will hurt your resale value later down the road.

Alot of times the big collision or body shops charge the amount that Random was talking about. There are ways however to get a professional paint job, and not spend 2 G's or more.

- Find a person that's right out of auto-body school and looking to do some paint jobs for the experience.

- Find a small body shop that's family owned and has like 3 or 4 people working there.

- Find someone that knows how to paint good, but does it out of their garage.

- Some shops will charge you a low price if YOU buy all the paint, and do the prep work first (masking off the car, removing all wax and dirt, etc...), or even if you pay CASH. The reason why they would charge less by you paying with cash, is because they don't have to record it in their books. The painter or manager of the shop can just pocket the money and never look back. So they they wouldn't charge you as much as if they were going to do it legally.

It's not the easiest thing finding these ways to get a cheap paint job, but they are out there. No matter what you decide to do....be sure to do your research with the people that are going to paint your car. You want something professionally done. You do get what you pay for, but sometimes...you can get lucky and find an insane deal through the ways listed above. wink.gif

Good luck.......

Hey,

Thanks for help. I had read that post about Maaco painting his spoiler than the paint running. But if it comes with a warrenty like that than he should have taken that back and complained smile.gif. There is a lot of small shops around here which paint and do body work. I think im going to start looking into those more. Thanks for help.
