Fellas,

I have a car that looks crap under the hood. I tell people my mods then lift the engine bay and feel dissapointed!! It is ugly under there. I need ideas and help on what I can do to make that bay look as fast as it goes!!

Post any pics or links to products that I can buy or try and do myself to make my engine look SWEET.

I want to go for a cobalt blue colour to match the exterior with the odd bit of chrome here or there.

Does anyone know where we can get the cnc plate for the battery?

I also wanted to know if anyone has ever seen a fender scoop? I wanted to cut a hole in the fender so that I can get air directly to the air filter from the side of the car or just a grill type thing to get the air to the filter that is going to sit behind the battery.

First thing first.. steam clean that puppy evey 2 weeks and dry it with compressed air.. and spray with some kind of engine shine spray. you know what i am talking about.. then clean up the wireing. meanning if you can see it retape it up and clean it up. just doing that will make a world of diffrence.. then you can starte on the colour scheame and painting the inside...

 

Steam clean works great!! Too bad i have to pay like 30 bucks every time i wanna rent 1, so i cant do it every 2 weeks lol. Just wire-look all the loose wires in BLACK, so it looks clean. I dont personally care for colorful loom, but if u have some color scheme thing goin on it may help to have color.
As far fender scoop, i havent hear of it. I really doubt it would make any differnce whether u had 1 there or not to bring in colder air. You could modify your CAI to be right behind the grill or behind a fog light (if u dont have them) and that would work well for getting cold air right on the intake. The dsm's have their stock side-mount intercooler located there because it works well for getting cold air...but thats another subject.

 

brake dust cleaner works but be careful it eats up your copper gasket and seals so don't get any pouring down the gead. there are probably special cleaning agents out there but brake dust cleaner gets that grime and oil grease out.

engine brite works great. use a couple cans even!

 

I hate engine brite. Get a detailer not a degreaser unless your engine bay is dirty as hell and needs a little freshining up before you detail to get it all shiny black. If DTN see's this he'll say silicon lube. He speaks of it pretty highly so I think im gonna try that too.

 

As a detailer, I've cleaned peoples engine bay using Simple Green all purpose cleaner...stuff works like a charm!


Also, tape up any wires....



Speaking of which, I need to do that again after I get back from ABQ. 'Twas going to do that one day, never got to it.

 

any type of degreaser will work nicely to remove excess dirt and oil. of course if you have oil in there, make sure its not leaking, but do get rid of whats been left behind.

if you just have that collection of dirt/dust then i guess that whole steam cleaning would come nicely.

w/e you do remember that if your gonna be throwing water around, remove your battery and cover up electric areas (ecu,fuses,etc) with a plastic bag or something like that.

you should also post some before after pix when you're done and tells us what route you went with.

 

Yeah, If your going to be using water, do what I didn't do and maybe put plastic bag and put it over your spark plug cover. I had water get in there and my plugs were drowning in water. Almost completely filled the holes so I was there for an hour cutting up peices of cloth to put in there and push around with a coat hanger drying up water just so the car could start.
