Default Mudflaps in the winter

So I was thinking about adding mudflaps for the winter but wondered how well they would hold up in the snow. Are there any aftermarket mudflaps that would work and wont keep snow packed between the mudflaps and tires or am I out of luck pretty much?

Mudflaps came with my 08 Elantra. They help keep the salt and grime off the side of your vehicle however it is just another location for snow to build up around the tire. The ones I have are made out of hard plastic.
