Mirrored underside of hood???
Ok this is a modification I've been trying and trying to do for the longest, but I want it to come out perfect...
1st- how do I remove the BLACK COVER?
2nd- what do I have to look for? is it just the mirror film that I keep finding or is there something else?
3rd- if it is the film, how do I go about installing it?
4th- will taking the black cover now that I have headers and CAI will the heat come thru the hood and mess up my paint? how can I prevent this?
thanks

Removing the black cover is a BITCH. You actually have to BREAK the pins holding it in.
Talk to LONG. I know he HAD the mirror film, and it looked good!

Zup buddy..I just got done instructing Viper on how to do this. Random is right though, the black pins holding it on are not fun to get off. Before you do anything though, make sure you have gloves on. The black heat shield has fiberglass insulation in it. If you don't wear gloves, your hand will be itching for awhile I learned the hard way on that. rolleyes.gif Anyway, you can either use a flat head screwdriver, a door trim removal tool, or an exacto knife to cut off the black pins. But be VERY careful because it's pretty easy to scratch up your paint.
Now, once you get it off, you migh see something quite interesting on your hood. On mine, the factory never painted the entire hood. I saw alot of small blotches of primer where they didn't cover over with paint. If this is the case with your car, just grab some paint in a can, and go over the small blotches of primer. This might have to be done, then again, might not. Viper said his hood was fully finished off, so who knows.
Now, it's real easy if you take your hood right off. (might need a friend to help you get it off though)Once you take the hood off, put it somewhere top down that it won't get scratched up. I did mine in the grass in my back yard. The film that you can use is just basic chrome film. You can go to Pep Boys or somewhere like that and get it. I think the actual name for it is Chrome Rocker Panel Molding (ghetto stuff
) Just cut the film out in a somewhat close shape to the shapes on the underside of your hood, and then install it just like window tint (sopay water solution, squeegee, exacto knife, etc..) Just be careful when you go to trim the tint because again, it's very easy to scratch the paint.
As far as heat goes from the engine, you shouldn't have any issues with the film peeling of. Mine has always stayed right on and I have the same mods as you. I was a little hesitant because I was thinking maybe the engine bay would be louder since I was removing the insulation. The sound went up just a tiny bit, but nothing to get discouraged over. Hope this helps!
Hood luck!

awesome job man, can you tell me if exactly how LO said that's how you did it? so you did take off the hood? and what happened with the clips, what did you use to take them off??? and is that just the film in there? or did you padded somehow?
ok well the black things are still on there didnt have a chance to take them off, yea its just mirror vinyl the whole project cost me 20 bux for the film, i didnt take off the hood i just did it while it was on there, what i did was take a piece of loose leaf paper and put it up to the sections and than run my nail along the sides to get an imprint in the paper than i cut it out and made a copy with the vinyl using an exacto knife about an inch bigger than the template it can be rough it doesnt matter, what u do is than soapy water up the vinyl and the hood and slide it around u can put it under the hood top and the inside sectional piece that way u get good coverage, just slide it in there, if u need more help bat just IM me
