Hey guys ,
i'm trying to get some opinions how it will be.
I'm going to paint my whole car next weekend cause some places already lost they color , some places are chipping already and the main reason is that GIANT T on my hood lol.
So i'm gonna paint my car same color as mine right now
my color is KJ - Forest Green Pearl

and when i'll put base coat of paint about like 3 coats
i want to mix this stuff with clear coat

what do you think how it will look??
it's like pearl powder you add one spoon at quart of clear
thank's for any advice

Is yours OEM green? Becuase I my Tib is metallic green and its code is FS. Wierd?

^^EDIT^^: Sorry, I thought you had a 1997 which the green is FS. Then I saw you had a 98, and they made an FS and KJ green in 1998 sorry!

I do like how its gonnalook though. That dark green is a nice color, and with a pearl done right will look even better.

3rd thing is O/T....I sent you a PM can you get back to me man? Thanks!

I like it, that was the colour of my old tib. I will also admit that I had looked into getting some pearl done, thought it would have looked fantastic

From great experience with additive pearls and flakes I can say this.

1. You cant paint them over anything but a flat base color, black is the 99% one of choice but white works, it just dramatically reduces the effect, so I hope you werent thinking of putting them over the existing pearl paint?

2. one teaspoon per quart isnt enough, I would use 2 and get a gun with a nice big nozzle. I started with one spoon for my taurus (house of kolor raspberry pearl) and it would have taken about 10 coats (house of kolor are crazy with the ammount of paint they expect you to use).

Hey if your not going for a dramtic effect, and just want something a little diffrent that seems like a good choice. Doesnt seem like it is that off of a color. I've seen cars that over do the peral and it makes the color of the car look pastel looking and you still can't notice...But if you want to keep the stock color and go something a lil more diffrent try to get a more bigger peral and get a yellow to gold peral that would look really hot on the green.
BTW painting mine in a lil over a week...

what you have is metallic. not pearl. By painting pearl over it youre going to make a mess.

It's completely up to you if you listen to me, I'd bet a quid you wont and youll just have to learn from your mistakes.

Oh, and you wont be able to cover that T on the hood with pearl. Remember, pearls are an irridescent effect not a solid color, so anything underneath will show through 80% of the time, hence why you 'float' or 'suspend' them over a basecoat in clear.

so some examples -

Kameleon over a black basecoat

Pearls over black -

And the biggest show and tell of all. Here are the holographic flakes I am using over black -

And over white, totally and utterly not the same at all. At least it's a flat color base.

So whether you choose to listen to me or not you are asking for trouble by painting pearls over metallic (especially if you leave that T there because you wont cover it.)

And this is the very reason I have to basically repaint about 40 % of my tib so that it is uniform, because whatever you leave underneath wont be hidden.

Up to you though, I mean good luck getting clearcoat off because TBH once you go there theres no going back without bare metal. With regular paint it can be flattened and sprayed over, sorta using it as a base primer, but with clear? it cant be painted on with regular paint, itll all have to come off again.

^^^^thanks man for all that stuff , NO WAY NO metter what i will get rid of that T lol i'm gonna sand it until metal lol than use primer than paint .
well if my idea is not that good can you give me some options that will look good on my stock color .
all i'm gonna do is .
1. Sand my hood with like 32 paper until metal smile.gif lol
2. sand whole body with like 120.
3. Use primer where it needed
4. Paint the whole car same color that i have, but i want something different .
And i don't want to change the color cause it's PITA . Underhood , door jams , trunk and etc.
thanks again Pandy
P.S Pandy i think you got me wrong lol i'm going to repaint my car not just put pearls over my original paint lol smile.gif

wow hold on dude.

First- Dont go to bare metal with your hood no reason to. especially with such a course grit.
Second- use 320 grit to sand your car, then prime. (you may be able to just seal it depending. if this is the case wet sand car with 400 then 600 very well. then spray)
Third- Wet sand primer with 400 than 600
four- Lay down a sealer(dont sand sealer. apply base while sealer is still wet.)
Five- Spray basecoat
Six- Apply Clearcoat
Seven- after clear has baked and then dried for a couple days wet sand with 1000, 1500, 2000, then use a buffer, start with rubbing compound on a wool pad. finish with polishing compound on a foam pad.

Hope that helps out a little.
