i would like to install struts to hold my hood up instead of the pole thing. i have a vis cf hood and was wondering if anyone had done this. i know i would need some light duty struts because the hood is so light and if they were too heavy, i couldnt close the hood. any suggestions would be great. im most worried about mounting points. thanks

 

You should be able to fabricate mounting points. Worst case scenario, use jbweld or epoxy. You could even screw bolts through the hood if you get some nice looking ones. I don't know if anyone has hood struts here though.
What I'd do if I were you is pick out some good points for them, probly somewhere on the strut well, wheel well, or firewall and then envision a small set of struts like the ones for your trunk or smaller mounting there. Lift your hood from the envisioned point, then you'll need to find a set of struts based on the weight they will need to push and the distance you have to work with that will be compatable after that. You can find struts on ebay or from many different manufacturers.

 

try using the same struts as the rear hatch

or go to a boat/marine store, they usually have struts for boat hatches

 

The rear hatch weighs about 4 times that of a CF hood. Try to find something as light duty as possible. There's basically nothing lighter than a CF hood to lift up (for a strut). I'll keep a look out for purpose built CF hood struts.

 

The NF sonata use a strut system might want to look in to that.

 

Tein makes some for that purpose but they are $$$$$ and you would have to make your own brackets

 

Or you could probably wait for the ones I'm having made to come out. You missed that thread on the hood lifts eh?

dude so just use 1 rear strut, its not gonna go flying up and hit you in the mouth. !

 

NOOO! They are TOO long (and too strong). You will stress the CF hood trying to close it.

You only need one strut..

Just make a hinge doode! It's not that hard. Just need a backwards elbow joint so that when it fully extends it's locked, and you just have to manually push the elbow joint inward to drop the hood down (probably need one on each side if you do that though).
