Since HID’s are designed to draw less power than regular bulbs, would your battery drain not as quick if you left your lights on by accident?
on my jeep, i can turn my lights on with the car off o.O but i sure would hope i realize the bright arse HIDS on and not do anything of the sort
there is also the 'auto' setting but I don't like the vehicle to turn my lights on during the day!!!

Haha, both my 87's have the same feature, and both have HID's - The ballast driver takes a lot of power to step up the voltage. I've managed to leave my running lights on a couple times (all day, with the 55w fog lamps) and be able to restart the car (much slower crank) and it started - In the summer, with a Yellow top.
I'm sure if I left my HID's on somehow (would require key to be in the ON position), it would drain very fast.

55w is 55w doesn't matter what kind of light it is.
An HID ballast converts DC to AC usually and you have a lot higher voltage going to the lamp. But it's still 55w, in reality less.

No way is that true. They put out much more light than a halogen but will draw 55w or less. Most halogen bulbs don't draw the watts they are rated at anyway. When I tried 100w halogens for my hi beams they only drew 70w of power.

HIDs will draw more power when striking the arc but will settle down to under 55w. I was looking around last week for some info and came across a thread where a guy tested his and the 55ws drew under 49wats when fully warmed up. Can't find it today though.
