Default hids

i recently bought opne of those ebay plug and play hid conversion kits. and i have noticed that the bubls have two lights per bulb one halogen and one hid. i see that when i turn on the lights only the halogen bulb is going on and the hid ones arnt. i also tried to check the power going to the ballast and i dont think im getting enough power. anyone else have any problems with there hids. any problems you have had could help me think of a solution. this kit also doesnt get its power straight from the battery it connects to the stock h4 plug.

Hmm...sometimes the two bulbs are for high and low beam. Does the HID kick on in the other position? Aside from that it should draw straight from the battery because voltage drop can be significant at the bulb and that circuit can't draw much current without issues. Assuming the bulbs and ballasts are functional you can probably rewire things to work.

thats the thing. with the wiring harness it came with there is no other possible way to wire it. and since it doesnt use a relay from the batter and just takes the power from the h4 stock plug i dont think its getting enough juice to kick on. the ballasts arnt even making an electric noise when i turn on the lights

Well, by re-wiring I mean to hack up your harness and relay the ballasts off of the battery. That's not favorable, you might be able to find a jumper harness from h4male to h4 female that you could hack into.

thats sound do-able. the soldering sounds easy i just dont how to wire the relay to be able to use the stock controller to be able to turn the lights on and off.

The relay trip signal would be your low beam + wire and the battery + output would go to the bulb side of the low beam + wire since that's the power source for the ballasts. Make sense?

Obvisouly the wire colors for the stock harness will be different.. but that information is easy to find.

The low beam wires will go to the ballast to trip it on, and the high beam will go to the halogen bulbs.

that makes sense. but i had some heavy gauge wire lying around and tried powering the ballast by just attaching the wire into the input on the ballast straight from the battery and i still didn't get any output so i talked to the guy and said he would replace them and hopefully they work after this.

*crosses fingers*

Did you have good grounds for the ballasts?

I would still relay the headlights anyways.. But thats me. With my car i was only getting 9v's at the lights. Now i get 14.3v. They are UBER freaking bright..

the balasts didn't come with a separate ground so im guessing that it was grounded byt the h4 socket it was plugged into.
