The Great Fog Light Mystery
For those interested in putting factory fogs in an RD that did not come with them, there is a bit of confusion about this.
There is information floating around that says that all you need to do is buy the fogs and the switch and just plug them into the harness that already exists in your car and you're set. This could not be farther from the truth.
What I have discovered, I know to be fact on the 2001 model, because that's what I own. If your car did not come with fogs from the factory, then the wiring for the fog lights does not exist in your particular car. Well... let me restate that. The wiring harness for the dash does include a plug for the factory fog light switch, but the engine compartment wiring harness does not have the necessary connections for the lights themselves. I work in Hyundai parts and thankfully had the necessary references to research this.
Now, be aware that I am speaking only about the Canadian or US versions of the 2001 Tiburon. There are two possible part numbers for the dash wiring harness, one for cars with Cruise Control and one without. My car has cruise control and I had an existing plug for the factory fog light switch plugged into the blanking cover. There is not one, but NINE possible part numbers for the engine compartment wiring harness, options being any combination of US or Canadian, with or without fogs and with or without ABS or DRLs. The information that there is a harness with plugs bundled up inside a fender is a complete MYTH, as there is not a "universal" wiring harness for every Tiburon, they are all different depending on the options the car has. Also the connections needed to plug the fog light relay and fog light fuse into the engine compartment fuse box do not exist if your car does not have factory fogs.
So basically, if you want to use the factory switch and factory fogs, you will have to build your own wiring harness for the fog light circuit because it simply does not exist in the car. Also, the circuit that makes the fogs come on only with the low beams is part of the factory fog switch circuit in the dash and I haven't figured out a way to modify that to come on with parking lights instead. So if you want to use the factory switch, you will have to settle for the fogs coming on with the low beams.
After I decided I wanted to do this and had the parts on order, I searched the forum for details on where the "existing" connections were so I had an idea of what I was gettin into. My search found plenty of advice, but no hard facts on locations of connectors, etc, and a new post asking for advice from those who had done this to their cars returned absolutely zero response. So I began to study shop's electrical troubleshooting manual that includes wiring diagrams for every system in the car. I finally built a harness for the fogs that allows me to use the factory switch and fog light assemblies, and is set up identical to the factory wiring diagram. It took a weekend to complete, but I am pleased with the results and my new fog lights.
Anyway, I just wanted to settle the mystery for others who may be looking at doing this.

Ok, here you go. This is exactly what I used, as well as a few other sources in the shop.
As I stated earlier, I can only guarantee this to be accurate for the 2001, as it came out of the shop's ETM for the 01 Tib.

If I remember correctly, Cobaltblue01 is a SHE, not a he.
Also, I can believe that they started putting different harnesses in later to save money, but I know for sure that some earlier cars had the fog light wiring in them without the fogs, as we've had members go in and find them.

You are correct. smile.gif So in that case I guess it would be "dudette", or "Miss Dude"... lol.
BTW, I can get you guys almost any wiring diagram your lil heart desires.

^^ Dang, it took 2 days to wire that up with a schematic from webtech? I thought you had to do something else in the shop manuals which is why I asked for pix.
Actually, about two half days... part of a Saturday and a small part of the next Sunday. And I don't really remember going into the shop manual, but I was all over the Electrcial Troubleshooting manual, looking at connector locations and referencing a couple other wiring diagrams. This is really the first major thing I've done to the car since I've owned it that required me to "get into" the workings of the car, and I had to run wires through the firewall, etc. I'm much more familiar and comfortable with the car now that I've done this.
Besides, to tell you the truth, I didn't know how to read a wiring diagram before this... tongue.gif
I do now, though. Piece of cake. fing02.gif

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I hope this leads to many more mods to come. I just finished some interior painting that I think looks pretty damn good. I will post pics when I can manage to take some that show it off the best. I also plan on doing rims/tires/drop in the next month or so.
