Default Eclipse....

Is that bump on the hood of the Eclipse there for a reason..? Do the aftermarket hoods like the carbonfiber hoods have that?

I think it only comes on some models, GS and up maybe. It might have somethng to do with those having more power or turbo and needing more space. But I don't have a clue, ask a question about Honda, the only other company I know a lot about smile.gif

It is called a Turbo bump even though the turbo sits no where near the thing I heard it is because the engine is front wheel drive

The engine in the turbo model need that bump to clear the hood.

Some have refered to it as the "power" bump, as the "base" models don't have it. Some ricer dudes put the bulge hood on the base models to make it look like the more powerful version...

hrmm so the turbo sits in there where the bump is? i never thought thats where a turbo would go but hrmm i guess so.. It's just i am prolly going to get my car off e-bay, and when i see pics of turbo Eclipses, when they show the engine pic, i don't see anything that would need for that bump.. hrmm
anyway, thanks a bunch for your responses!

I had a 98 Eclipse Turbo and the cam sprocket cover sits just below the hump. I never really checked it out to see if the hood would clear it without the hump but the cover is rather large.. It also makes it a bizzo to put vinyl racing stripes on because of the compound curves.

Stinger, the build quality on Eclipses is actually far less than my 2000 Tib so don't be alarmed if you run into electrical problems and the interior falling apart if you go with the Eclipse. But the Turbo ones are fun! Just don't total it like I did sad.gif
