I'm installing my spoiler tomorrow. My tib did not come with a stock spoiler so I'm going to have to drill holes in the hatch. It came with a diagram what I can lay out on the hatch to find the spot for the holes.

But is there somthing I should put down before I drill so the paint doesnt chip away, crack, etc?

Maybe tape of some sort?

Thanks

what the techs at my work do is they hit it with a center punch first which helps before drilling if the paint chips on the corners from the drill the wing will cover it anyways...

exactly, then, before you install the wing.. hit any bare metal with some touchup paint and wait till it dries.

What I did was cut some pencils all to the same length about 1-2", stick one pencil in each hole on the spoiler where the studs go, then suspend the spoiler above the car exactly how you want it and bring it down slowly, making little pencil marks where you need to drill each hole. that's the "i dont have tools" way to go about it. this way you don't put marks in the paint, and you lift the hatch off and make sure that the holes are going to work in the places you marked.
then for a gasket i just found some thin rubber sheets and cut a template.

oh, you have a diagram.
i just drilled, i didn't have any problems with paint.
